TV Decoders are normally made to be connected to one computer only; that is one decoder to one TV but in this post, we will look at how to connect two TVs to one decoder. This is very easy and can be done by anyone provided you have the required accessories and tools.

Why should you connect two TVs to one Decoder?

You may have your own reason why you want to use two TVs for one decoder but below are some of the common reasons why people want to make this possible.

  1. To share the decoder with others. This is either their children or wife or just want to extend it to a different room.
  2. Screencast your TV to the other. If you are in an office space and do not want to buy a decoder for all TVs in the office, this is the appropriate way you can use one decoder for all the TVs.

Limitations of connecting two TVs to one decoder

Although this method allows you to screencast TV1 one on TV2. Where TV1 is the main TV connected to the Decoder and TV2 is also the second TV that is picking signals from TV2.

The only limitation is, that you can only control the decoder on only TV1, you can not make any changes to the decoder on TV2; these include; you cannot change TV channels, you can not make settings to the decoder and other functionalities.

Also, you should get it clear that your decoder must be an old decoder or should have an RF (Radio Frequency) outlet. You can find this among the ports at the back of your decoder, look for the port with the label RF OUT.

Things required to connect two TVs to one decoder

  1. The two televisions
  2. The decoder with an RF Out port.
  3. Coaxial cable
  4. RCA or AV Cable
  5. F Connectors. You can also use the N connector

Steps to connect two TVs to one decoder

This method should work for either multi TV, DSTV or any other type of decoder. Follow the steps below.

  1. Make sure you have successfully set up TV1, where this is the original connection of the decoder. This means you have set up signals, and everything is active and working.
  2. Now get your coaxial cable ready with your F connectors connected.
  3. Connect one end of the coaxial cable to the RF Out port on the decoder.
  4. Connect the other end of the coaxial cable to the antenna port of TV2.
  5. Now on TV2, make sure you make an analogue search of a signal. This has converted your signal to analogue instead of digital.
  6. You can also make an auto search to the land of the right frequency.
  7. Now you can watch what is been viewed on TV1 to TV2. This is like screencasting TV1 on TV2.
